New for the new millennium! Makenna is one of the finest hardy water lilies we have ever seen, and has drawn raves from test growers. Large peachy-pink flowers have a classical water lily form and a pleasant fragrance. Most importantly, Makenna flowers profusely. It is the first of the hardies to begin flowering in the spring, and the last to quit in the fall. It performs well in full sunlight and even fairly shady ponds. The medium-sized pads are green with a coffee-colored sheen. The beautiful blossoms are held aloft, about 2-4" above the water level. Makenna is our new favorite, and sure to be yours, too. |
The deepest green pads form the backdrop for our newest star, Amanda Uber, to steal the scene. First bursts into the limelight with the resplendent colors of the sunrise . . . the pale pink and golden amber of a new day dawning. As rapidly as the sun warms the morn, the colors begin to deepen, almost imperceptibly. Settling into her role Amanda’s enormous flowers open even wider to showcase long slender petals turning a rubescent scarlet at their base. Each day’s performance reveals more nuances of color as Amanda upstages all other pond players with showy flowers of vivid vermilion at the center radiating to a soft coral at the outer edges. The final curtain falls on a fiery crimson flower in full glory. Meanwhile, an understudy rises to unfurl the shades of the dawn upon a new day. The show goes on. |
